The warm end of the range
Harbour is the heaviest thing we make, which is a relative statement — it is still cotton, and it still breathes. What the extra weight buys you is a robe that holds its line instead of collapsing into a dressing gown, and a collar that stands up on its own.
The shawl collar runs wide across the chest and sits flat, so it does not bunch at the neck when you sit up. The belt threads through fixed loops rather than loose ones, which means it stays put rather than dragging on one side. Mid length, deep patch pockets, straight hem.
Where mid-length lands on you
Mid length here means the hem falls somewhere between the knee and mid-calf on most people, depending on your height. It is long enough to close properly when you sit down and short enough not to catch on the stairs.
The cut is generous through the body and the shoulders sit where they sit — a robe is not meant to be fitted. If you are deciding between two sizes, take the larger one for extra wrap across the front, or stay with your usual size if you want the belt to close closer to the body.
- Measure your chest over light clothing, with the tape flat and your arms down.
- For the wrap, measure round the widest part of your body and add nothing — the belt takes up the rest.
- A robe that closes with room to spare is the one you will wear, so avoid sizing down.
Both measuring and the difference between the men’s and women’s cuts are covered in the size & care guide.
What the extra weight does
A heavier cotton behaves differently from a light one. It creases where it bends and then hangs it out again, so the robe looks tidy after a night over the end of the bed. It also takes longer to dry, and it will feel stiff on the first wear or two before it settles against the shoulders.
- Wash it cool on a gentle cycle with similar colours, and leave room in the drum.
- Dry it flat or on a line. A tumble dryer is what takes the body out of a heavy cotton.
- Warm iron if you want the collar crisp again. Avoid bleach.

Before you order Harbour
Is it too heavy to wear in summer?
It is warmer than the rest of the range, so it is the one to reach for in winter or in a cold house. In summer most people switch to Meadow, which is cut on the same lines in a much lighter cotton.
Will the belt stay where I tie it?
The belt runs through fixed loops rather than loose ones, so it cannot slide round or drop on one side. Tie it once and it holds — the loops are stitched down at the side seams.
How long does it take to dry?
Longer than a light cotton, so allow it a full day flat or on a line. We do not publish drying times, because they depend on how you dry it and how warm the room is.
